Revenue Cycle Management/3rd Party Billing
As traditionally funded (student health fee/student fee) student health centers struggle with flat to declining student fees, the pressure to develop other revenue streams is increasing. Continuing to deficit fund from reserves will eventually create even larger deficits. Addressing these pressures is more critical than ever.
John’s experience includes the successful implementation of a comprehensive practice management and 3rd party billing system. Additionally, he oversaw the transition and implementation of a comprehensive electronic health record system including a patient health portal. In support of the transition to 3rd party billing, he developed a comprehensive credentialing program, in-network payer contracts, coding and compliance programs, patient registration functions and electronic clearing house support.
During his tenure, The Ohio State University Wilce Student Health Center achieved in-network provider status for approximately 92% of the main campus student population. Additionally, revenue from 3rd party insurance reimbursements increased by approximately 40% as a percentage of total fee-for-service revenue.
With over 30 years of progressive experience in practice management, electronic health record development and 3rd party billing, JDF Consulting, LLC can help you analyze your processes, identify gaps and develop a comprehensive road map to successfully implementing a fee-for-service model.
Facility Planning and Design
As facilities age strategic planning for either the replacement or remodeling of the facility is critical. With continued pressure on budgets strong planning and design services are critical. The first step in the process would be the development of your Program of Requirements (POR). The POR outlines the functional requirements of the project and expectations of how the facility and its systems will be used and operated. It provides the design team with the necessary information to develop the schematic design and program verification, which serves as the "road map" for the development of the design and construction documents.
John’s experience includes the development of a comprehensive plan including the POR, acquisition of an existing 13,000 sq. ft. facility, the design, and construction/renovation of Planned Parenthood of Summit, Portage and Medina Counties, largest women’s health center, education department and administrative offices. He was the principal in the development of a comprehensive plan for the renovation and expansion of the John W. Wilce Student Health Center, a 55,000 sq. ft. facility, including the development of the POR, initial schematic design, and budget and funding analysis. Finally, he oversaw the successful planning, design and implementation of the renovation of the Wilce Student Health Center adding 8 exam rooms, patient registration, patient waiting, lobby and relocation of a “retail” pharmacy operation. This approximately $8 million dollar project has been credited with “transforming the patient experience”.
JDF Consulting, LLC can provide support along the spectrum of development of the POR to Life Safety and occupancy.
Organizational Restructuring and Change Management
Executive leadership gaps, culture and climate issues or general staff dissatisfaction often results in poor operational performance, lower patient satisfaction and loss of revenue.
John’s experience includes navigating three strategic leadership transitions, serving as the Interim Director, and restructuring the organizational leadership. He has recruited, hired, on boarded, developed, promoted and transitioned staff in support of strategic goals, operational needs and programmatic changes.
JDF Consulting, LLC can provide interim support for key strategic operations and management staff transitions; organizational structure review and re-alignment with strategic goals; change management and leadership coaching and support.
Accreditation and Quality Assurance
Accreditation whether through the Joint Commission or the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care requires a comprehensive program including patient advocacy, standards review, policy analysis and quality assurance monitoring.
John’s experience includes the development of a patient advocacy program, design and oversight of a comprehensive plan for improving organizational performance and the continuous accreditation by the Joint Commission of the Wilce Student Health Center for both the Ambulatory and Laboratory Accreditation programs during his tenure.
JDF Consulting, LLC can provide support for the design, development and implementation of a comprehensive program to achieve accreditation or enhance existing programs in order to maintain accreditation.
